![]() And if you want all the options because you have complex task and project management needs, OmniFocus is for you. TL DR – If you want something simple that’s easy to use, look at Things. The simplicity reduces the friction of using the app. Most people do not need complex project management for their personal tasks. To be fair, the lack of options here is intentionally limiting. You can create section headings in your Things projects, and you can attach checklists to your tasks, but traditional sub-tasks are not a concept in Things. You can have projects and tasks, but no folders and no sub-tasks (though Areas are kind of like folders, and allow you to group related projects together). Things is by far the most limited in terms of project organization. The absence of folders isn’t a big deal either, unless you have a lot of projects you’re trying to manage at the same time (but maybe you should think about cutting some instead?) I struggle to envision a scenario where this would be limiting, but it’s something to be aware of. Just like OmniFocus, these can be nested several layers deep (maxes out at 5 levels). Todoist doesn’t give you different project types or folders, but does give you the ability to create sub-tasks. The tasks inside the project can be nested, with subtasks being indented much like an outliner. There are also different types of projects you can create, such as sequential projects (which require the previous action to be completed before the next one is available to be worked on) and parallel projects (where any of the tasks can be worked on at any time). The Projects view shows you not only the list of projects available, but also gives you the ability to group your projects into folders (just like files in the file system). OmniFocus will probably feel the most familiar for most Mac users because it borrows conventions straight from Finder. ![]() A project is something you need to do that has multiple steps. But before we get into the specifics of the organizational features in each app, we need to define a couple basic terms: Project OrganizationĮvery task manager must make opinionated choices about how it allows you to organize your tasks and projects. But if you want the ability to paste TaskPaper-formatted lists into your task manager (a very specific use case), then OmniFocus has you covered. TL DR – For most people, capture will be basically the same in almost any task manager you use. This formatting also makes the entry via Shortcuts much more useful. This allows you to take a text-based list of items and paste them into the app, letting you create an entire project with a couple of keystrokes. However, OmniFocus does offer the ability to copy and paste from TaskPaper formatting as well. These options account will cover you for about 99% of all tasks you’ll ever need to capture. ![]() They also allow you to add tasks by long-pressing on the app icon on iOS and with input from Shortcuts. Every app has some version of a Quick Add window that allows you capture tasks quickly from your keyboard on your Mac. Since capture is such an essential feature, it functions pretty similarly in all three apps. You need to be able to get things into your task manager easily, or the friction will make you miss things. CaptureĬapturing things to do as they have your attention is at the core of any good task management app. ![]() In this article, we compare their features side-by-side to help you pick the best option for your own task management needs. All three offer you the tools you need to wrangle your tasks and projects, but each takes a little bit of a different approach. There are lots of great task managers out there, but the three we see the most are Things, OmniFocus, and Todoist. We won't go into the technicalities, but open-backed headphones are supposed to have inherently better sound-quality characteristics than closed-back ones, and that's easy to believe when you plug in the PC 360 G4ME. Sennheiser has been making headphones for long enough to know how to make them sound good, and that's very much the case for the PC 360 G4ME. With the PC 360 G4ME, Sennheiser is clearly eyeing up the vast hordes of World of Warcraft players, or devotees of other MMOs. If playing games for sustained periods is your thing, though, this gaming headset was clearly designed with you in mind. The open-back design does indeed allow air to flow through, which is a slightly odd sensation at first – and, of course, it lets you hear everything that is going on around you, which could be a good or bad thing depending on your point of view. The huge earcups and velvety cushioning combine with plenty of adjustability to fit all conceivable sizes and shapes of human heads, and feel very nice to wear indeed. If there was one word that you would imagine Sennheiser's designers had in mind when they sat down to sketch out the PC 360 G4ME, that word would be “comfort”. It would have been nice if Sennheiser had included an Xbox 360 controller audio adaptor with the headset, although admittedly you can pick them up for under a fiver. Or at least, so you would imagine.īut the Xbox 360's quirky design means that you're best off investing in an adaptor that fits into the audio outputs on your controller, presuming you prefer to attach your Xbox 360 to your TV with an HDMI cable.Ĭonnect the headset to a PC or Mac couldn't be simpler, at least, although it will be at the mercy of the quality of the sound card in your computer, unlike Creative Labs' (more expensive) Sound Blaster Recon 3D Omega. Indeed, the Sennheiser PC 360 G4ME keeps it super-simple, with standard jacks for headphone and mic, and nothing else to worry about. The upside of wired gaming headsets is that they're inevitably easier to set up than wireless ones: they don't require dongles or the like. There's is one other cool design element, though: flip the boom microphone up, and it mutes automatically. ![]() ![]() While it's easy to find and operates quite loosely, it looks and feels a tad flimsy. Its only disappointing design aspect is a volume knob recessed into the right earcup. Padding on the earcups and the bottom of the headband has a pleasantly velvet-like feel and, while the plastic that forms its main body isn't the most tactile you'll ever come across, it certainly feels robust. Unlike the Creative Labs Sound Blaster Recon 3D Omega and Gioteck EX-05, it's a wired, as opposed to wireless, headset, but at least it has a good 15 feet of wire. ![]() Under these circumstances, the Due Process Clause did not impose upon the State an affirmative duty to provide petitioner with adequate protection. While the State may have been aware of the dangers that he faced, it played no part in their creation, nor did it do anything to render him more vulnerable to them. No such duty existed here, for the harms petitioner suffered occurred not while the State was holding him in its custody, but while he was in the custody of his natural father, who was in no sense a state actor. 2452, 73 L.Ed.2d 28, the affirmative duty to protect arises not from the State's knowledge of the individual's predicament or from its expressions of intent to help him, but from the limitations which it has imposed on his freedom to act on his own behalf, through imprisonment, institutionalization, or other similar restraint of personal liberty. While certain "special relationships" created or assumed by the State with respect to particular individuals may give rise to an affirmative duty, enforceable through the Due Process Clause, to provide adequate protection, see Estelle v. (b) There is no merit to petitioner's contention that the State's knowledge of his danger and expressions of willingness to protect him against that danger established a "special relationship" giving rise to an affirmative constitutional duty to protect. The Clause is phrased as a limitation on the State's power to act, not as a guarantee of certain minimal levels of safety and security while it forbids the State itself to deprive individuals of life, liberty, and property without due process of law, its language cannot fairly be read to impose an affirmative obligation on the State to ensure that those interests do not come to harm through other means. ![]() (a) A State's failure to protect an individual against private violence generally does not constitute a violation of the Due Process Clause, because the Clause imposes no duty on the State to provide members of the general public with adequate protective services. Respondents, a county department of social services and several of its social workers, received complaints that petitioner was being abused by his father and took various steps to protect him they did not, however, act to remove petitioner from his father's custody. Did Wilson shove Hardee in the back with both hands? Absolutely.Īnd here’s the key, as it relates to parsing the language of the officials rules. Was first impact technically on the side? Maybe. The shove in the back (not the side) is what put Hardee on the ground. Initial contact may have come from the side, but Wilson instantaneously (if not simultaneously) shoved Hardee in the back, too. At Rule 3, Section 4, the rulebook defines a block in the back as “a block that is delivered from behind an opponent above his waist.” The rulebook also says that it is not a block in the back “if both of the blocker’s hands are on the opponent’s side.” However, the rulebook plainly states that, “if either hand is on the back, it is a foul.”Īlso, Rule 12, Section 1, Article 3 defines an illegal block as occurring when a player “blocks an opponent (from behind) in the back above the opponent’s waist, or uses his hands or arms to push an opponent from behind in a manner that affects his movement, except in close-line play.” ![]() ![]() The officials determined the block originated from the side, and so they did not throw a flag.īut that’s not what the rulebook says.
